Top 10 SEO Tips

Laptop on desk - tips for boosting SEOTop 10 SEO Tips

An endless array of information exists online with guidelines on how to optimise your website for SEO purposes. On many occasions, these “rules” are complex to follow and extremely time-consuming.

We have assembled our top 10 tips that have worked for our business, but importantly, are realistic and simple to implement for a small business.

Business Keywords. Determine your business keywords. The goal of keywords is to create a strong association between your brand and a set of words, so you should select keywords you would like your business to be associated with online (e.g. bookkeeping, marketing, etc.)

Business Information. Take the time to ensure your business information is correct across all platforms and online directories (e.g. address, email, phone, etc.) If Google picks up “citation inconsistencies” (incorrect or inconsistent information about your business), your search results may be impacted in a negative way.

Website Footers. Ensure you have a footer on each page of your website containing business information such as your address, postcode and phone number. Again, all information should be identical to that of any other online listing you have either on social media networks or local directories.Google Screen - Website Analytics

Landing Pages. Businesses which have multiple service areas should have separate landing pages so that people are still able to find you on Google when carrying out local searches.

Regular Blog Posts. Try to post blogs to your website on a consistent basis (and share these to your social media pages as well). Not only are blogs fantastic resources for your prospects, they also tell Google that your website is active. Try to include your keywords wherever possible (avoid mentioning your keywords just for the sake of it, as you may be penalised for ‘keyword stuffing’).

Google My Business. Set up a Google My Business profile and fill out your page in as much detail as possible (remembering to include your keywords again).

Social Media. Use Google My Business as an additional social media network for your business. You can use Google My Business to create posts, offers & business updates (again, including keywords wherever possible).

Google Reviews. Try to gather as many positive Google Reviews from your customers as you can (the more 5-star reviews, the better!) Good practice is to ask them while they are with you, while it is top of mind. Make it as easy as possible by emailing or texting them your unique link to review.

Google Alerts. Set up Google Alerts to stay up to date with what is happening in your industry and to ensure you can keep track of and monitor your brand.

SEO Professionals. SEO on its own can be a full-time job. If you are looking to really boost your presence and visibility, we highly recommend getting in touch with an SEO company who can manage it for you behind the scenes. Select a company who will spend the time with you to explain what SEO really means and what you can do to complement their work.
